Amazon Prime is taking a different route, looking at an element touched on during the first season of “Narcos: Mexico” and telling the true story. “The Last Narc” is a four-part docuseries examining in detail the 1985 kidnap and murder of DEA Agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena. Camarena was played by Michael Peña on “Narcos: Mexico.”

From the Amazon synopsis: “The series tells the story of a fallen hero, the men who killed him, and the man who risked everything to find out what really happened and why. Highly decorated special agent Hector Berellez, who was assigned to lead the DEA’s investigation of Camarena’s murder, peels back the layers of myth and propaganda to reveal the bone-chilling truth about a conspiracy that stretches from the killing fields of Mexico to the halls of power in Washington, D.C.”

In a glowing review, AVClub says We’re Here is “a celebration of performance as self-expression, and that brings with it questions the series only intermittently engages with. The opportunity to perform in an HBO-produced series with world-famous drag queens is a significant thing.” The review also points out the timeliness of the series, “What HBO couldn’t have counted on is how timely the series feels. With much of the world social distancing due to COVID-19, the importance of the arts to connect and bring people together has been underscored, as has the power of live performance. Many viewers are aching for communal experiences and watching not only the locals perform, but their friends and families experience that performance hits in a different way now than it would have a year ago.”

But the transformee’s personal stories of discrimination, loneliness and empowerment are genuinely moving, and the producers don’t shy away from exploring the complexity of being queer in America.

A trio of drag queens — including RuPaul’s Drag Race superstars Shangela, Bob the Drag Queen, and Eureka — hit the streets of America in the first teaser trailer for the upcoming HBO reality series (below), which follows the group as they make over small-town residents for a one-night-only drag performance.

In addition to appearing in the show, Shangela, Bob, and Eureka will serve as consulting producers alongside executive producers Stephen Warren and Johnnie Ingram, director and executive producer Peter LoGreco, and executive producers Eli Holzman & Aaron Saidman.

Documentarian Peter LoGreco has signed an overall deal with the Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC).

LoGreco is a documentary showrunner, director, and producer. Under the deal, he will collaborate with IPC’s CEO, Eli Holzman, and president, Aaron Saidman, to develop original series and showrun series for IPC.

LoGreco previously served as showrunner and director for the pilot of the company’s new HBO series “We’re Here,” which he is now overseeing as production begins on the first season. IPC and LoGreco’s have also previously partnered on the first season of A&E’s documentary series, “Kids Behind Bars: Life or Parole.”
